Rick and Morty: The Poop in my Pants
Rick and Morty:
The Poop in my Pants
“The Poop in my Pants” is not an ad for Rick and Morty, or simple branded content. It’s an in-canon animated short featuring the fan-favorite character
Mr. Poopybutthole.
It's All For The Fans
After a certain fast-food giant’s poor attempt to play into the now-infamous szechuan sauce meme, Rick and Morty fans were leaving 2017 on a sour note. With another long wait ahead of season four, we needed to get the fandom in a more positive place, while getting media outlets to focus less on marketing stunts not sanctioned by the network, and more about the show and the characters fans have grown to love

Rick and Morty fans may have differing opinions on their favorite episodes and moments, but there’s one character EVERYONE loves: Mr. Poopybutthole. Though his season three appearance was limited to one brief stinger in the finale where we are introduced to his family, we knew fans were curious about how he got there. So to bring our fanbase together, we wanted to tell the story of Mr. Poopybutthole’s adventures during season three, and all the love and loss found along the way.
Family Themed and Family Timed
Rick and Morty isn’t a typical Adult Swim gross-out stoner show; there’s also a lot of heart. And fans view Mr. Poopybutthole as a symbol of innocence and purity in the Rick and Morty universe. But making a touching short film starring a character named after both poop and buttholes would make for a hilarious juxtaposition to anyone. And with the short focusing on his family, we wanted to release it at a time when many people were reflecting on their own families; American Thanksgiving.
The Story Album
The Poop in my Pants is a two minute animated short starring Mr. Poopybutthole. After watching the final moments from the season finale of Rick and Morty, he turns off the TV and starts flipping through a photo album that tells his story of his whereabouts during the events of season three. Each photo contained a callback from the previous season, giving superfans plenty of reasons to rewatch. The short itself was scored by Ryan Elder, Rick and Morty’s original composer, and was released on Wednesday, November 22nd, the day before American Thanksgiving.
Take That, Turkey
The Poop in my Pants exploded. With no paid media, we were the number one organic trending YouTube video on Thanksgiving day, gaining 4 million views in twenty-four hours. We remained at the top of the charts for days following release, with entertainment outlets writing about the animated short in droves. Meanwhile, fans went nuts over social media, creating theory threads on Reddit, analysis videos on YouTube, and even recorded their live reactions to watching the short. Many expressed their disbelief in the comments that they could be moved to tears by a man named Mr. Poopybutthole.
Watch the Season 3 finale stinger that takes place immediately following Season 3 credits, where we see Mr. Poopybutthole's wife, child, and new life all for the first time after he had gone missing for an entire season:
